Cheers for that photoxtc. I really appreciate your comments. This one is yet another unforgiving piece that whilst not for everyone's wall, is important to me. It encapsulates what art is about in terms of making you feel something! Anything. A reaction. Bacon and the Micallef charcoals spring to my mind. It's a gem of a piece. To think Denning did this when he was 19-20 years old, like 75 years ago! (Only joking Mr D! )
I would like to say that I bought it from the man himself but that would be a lie. I suspect most of his older pieces were either sold, given away, intentionally burnt, accidentally burnt or destroyed in some other way.
In truth, it's taken quite a bit of time to get the last few pieces with much luck involved too. I've found asking the right questions to the right people really does help.
As we know there are some wonderful people who appreciate Guy's work. Just look at this forum. Some of whom have seen him through far less prosperous times. It's great to have had some contact with a couple of these people and the chance to see and even buy some of, what I consider to be historic pieces of art, from his substantial body of work.
I have still yet to meet him but certainly look forward to getting pissed with GD as well as Mr Aitch and the other regular members at the next show. You never know, I might actually be able to make it this time! ;D
