Just had this through from Alison. Sorry the last two pics are small but I can't upload those from the email for some reason. Yet more stunning work. "Dear Customer We have some new works by Guy Denning available now. We are just about to put these on the website and send out to buyers on our waiting list. They do tend to go quickly so if you are interested please do get in contact. I have attached images on this email and several emails to follow due to file sizes and details follow below: Le Dormeur du Val 122cm x 122cm (4' x4') Oil and mixed media on canvas original £8750 The pieces sold at Bonhams Urban Art Auction were only 40 x 50 cm and sold at £8,000! That's quite some canvas! ..someones going to be happy!
The Sleeper in the Valley
There’s a recess in the greenery, where the river sings Tangling wildly in the tattered grass Silvery; where the sun from the proud mountain Glimmers; It’s a little valley that sparkles with light.
A young soldier, mouth open, head bare, And nape bathing in the cool blue cresses Sleeping; he’s spread out on the grass, under the clouds, Pale on his green bed where the light rains down.
Feet in the gladiolas, he sleeps. Smiling like A sick child would smile, he dozes. Warmly lull him Nature, he’s cold.
The scents no longer make his nose quiver He sleeps in the sun, hand on his chest Tranquil, he has two red holes on his right side.

Cheers photo, much better! We can actually see it now. ;-) Now I probably often say I love most of the work we get to see by GD but this is something very special isn't it? Even the background colour is setting the hairs on the back of my neck on end. Reminds me of some of the Icarus pieces but cooler (as in temperature). The face however brings to mind the superb Fear and Loss with all its ghost-like beauty. As with many Denning portraits, the close up of the face speaks to the viewer at a base level of human communication. These are emotions that are raw and not for the feint hearted. Layers of f**ked up, seemingly irreverent paint, spliced and scraped, eventually meeting to make an image that burns into your mind. Minotaur Woman has exactly the same effect on me. I feel the need to return to gaze at him again and again. This most recent time of viewing I focus on his right arm reaching slowly out of frame tinged with red and somehow feeding strength and defiance into the subject; though despair remains very much at his core. Now, I often enjoy or appreciate the lettering used whether it be stencilled, cuttings or otherwise. However, it is the lettering in this piece that detracts for me. The title of the piece, as ever is of resonance and weight; in this case I know the poem well, but the fact the character is facing, eyes closed and skywards for whatever reason we have in our own minds, (for me it remains utter despair and need for release) increases the significance of whatever is above him. Personally, I'd have preferred a continuum of that beautifully cold blue-grey without the lettering rudely interrupting the source of light and space of possible salvation.
