Hi Guy's, (sorry for that terrible pun) I'd just like to ask your opinions on something. I love Mr. Denning's work and I know he is a fantastic artist but that is the extent of my knowledge, I'd just like to know how big is he in the art community? how does an artist become as big as Micallef and Bansky? I'm merely an art student seeking to learn the journey an artist undertakes to actually become like Micallef and beyond. And the last thing, is this going to happen for guy? I know nobody knows for sure but what do you think???

Greetings Dan,
How does an artist become as big as Micallef and Bansky? Time and quality pieces - of which Guy has put in both.
It would certainly appear that Guy's pieces are on the uptake - but ultimately it's all about what you like and what it does for you. Art is purely in the eye of the beholder, and what one individual appreciates isn't necessarily what another likes.
I know that I don't like everything Guy has done - although I love a lot of his darker peices and his Screaming Heads.
Will it happen for Guy? I hope so! What's your opinion
Good luck on the path mate
H

I love guys pictures, not all but most and he is def coming into his own.Micallef stating that guy was one to watch did not do any harm either. I personally think it is happening for guy, but if your talking in monetary terms who knows. All i know is i have a coulpe of beautiful originals

Ye sure his work is great Im a great admirer and I actually managed to finance myself one of his originals recently ( and have my eye on another that I know I cant afford ) However also as a student, I can't deny the that the investment side of art (Guy in particular given the current demand for his work) doesn't also apppeal, and what better way to save a deposit for a flat but in the form of an original artwork hung on my wall!! (Im sure you'll agree it beats the money sitting around in a bank!) Do you think this is safe bet or should I steer clear. ?? Sorry about this I really am a rookie Would love your thoughts. Dan

Hello all... I grew up with Guy in the same village and painting and writing has been his passion from a very young age.His work has always sold and chosen for the Venice Biennale in 2003.Anyone who checks out his web site would soon realise he`s the real deal and destined for stardom.I bought a Micallef on his recommendation and it sit very well alongside Guys "Young Spartans" My advise is buy now while prices are relatively affordable !! before he goes the way of Banksy and Micallef.......

Looks like this thread deserves a touch up..
lets just say, things have moved up a gear or two!
Think I am safe in saying that it was never in doubt really, just a matter of how long.
Worldwide recognition is seconds away..
I believe Guy will still put out affordable pieces throughout his future career too..

Thanks for bringing this thread out again Top. It's always interesting looking back and how things pan out afterwards.
I believe the main galleries that handle the arist have a very important role to play. We have seen some great artist that have not been promoted too well and now collectors are a little switched off.
I think that unfortunately, an artist cannot succeed on quality an effort alone. The gallery has to be PR, Sales, Manager and advisor all in one. Of course the artist has to be talented and put the effort in and be progressive. Oh and forgot the main thing an artist needs to succeed...luck.

Yes thanks indeed to all at this forum... if I'm not mistaken that was my first post here when I was studying his work, now I own 2 oil paintings and 2 prints and can appreciate every one, every single day. Thanks for bumping the thread.... it took me back to the start of my own personal Guy Denning Adventure.

Figuring out the 'politics' or at least interpereting them in my own way. That was by far the most ingtriguing element, and also getting to copy his style (my favourite way of painting) !! untamed and rigorous with the intent to create real intensity and emotion. You all know what I mean, Im sure we love it for very similar reasons. If is still had the essay I would share it with you guys however i only have the hard copy (even in this digital age). I may retype it one day should I ever fancy typing out 5000 words

Thanks Dan, 5000 words must have been fun, yet daunting.. you need to share some of your insights with us re:Guy's styles etc..you got me intrigued!
