HI y'all.
I went to see Guys work at Selfridges at the weekend.... what are peoples thoughts on the estimates? I'm think all the pieces are going to fetch top end or more what with the LA show, Bonhams and RP shows/auctions coming up!... Suprised to see Hospital Doors there as someone on the Banksy website sold/tried to sell that a few months back and personally think it would be a little foolish to sell now?!

I for one have no idea how the auction will go. I think we all hope he does well. Only thing I think about when I see this auction is how close I was to buying Icarus Scapegoat for an Atrocity 6 months ago for 3000. If only. But there are certainly some lovely pieces for sale. And I know what I'll be bidding on.

Hi bud! hows you? ..glad to see your here and posting Just remember what happened last time at auction..that was well random! ..interesting to see what happens now that Guy's work has a wider audience though. Imo, if the interest 'is' there, then expect some pieces to go higher than estimate.. With regard to the foolishness of selling 'Hospital Doors' (2005) now, I personally would disagree, my reason (just to be clear, this is only my opinion regarding this..others may disagree entirely) being, that Guy's work has evolved ever so quickly over the past year alone (..not showing much sign of slowing either too! ), older pieces are beginning to show their age (gracefully) now I think. Guy has moved on to bigger & brighter (haha ..effing darker more like ;D) things. ^^^I think that's a gimme though.. ^^^ ..so therefore(monetary wise), I would sell now if it is no longer loved and has to go, because I think it wont 'command' a price..like, say 'Lilith' would (timeless classic from Denning). Guy's work can appeal to one man, yet not the next..nothing new you might say, but even on this forum, we do, and have, personal faves / all time wants(!)..wait in anticipation for whats new/in the pipeline..my point being that if one person hankers after a piece, its not surprising to find that they may be the only one (strange but true)..this I find is one of the most appealing facts about Guy's work, is that if its 'not for you'..there's plenty more coming, being as Guy is highly prolific in his output of work. I certainly do hope that the pieces reach a good price as I for one have a vested interest! ..not selling though ;D Upwards & onwards!

(from a retrospective view, I 'm glad its up for auction really..too bloody huge for my house anyway! ..love it lots though Shame you did not get it though as you obviously like it a lot bud..

Hi Top, I partly agree with your comments re: Guys work 'showing their age' as some I have seen from the 90's look as tho they were done by a different artist. He has certainly found form recently (altho I've only been aware of him since Nov 07) but there is a remarkable development in such a short space of time. I'm considering purchasing something at the moment and assuming the best possible outcome from June 17th, Bonhams and the future exhibitions, I'd be rather foolish to turn it down while I have the oppertunity to own it as any future website releases will probably sell before I can get them and at a price I can't afford

I'm really looking forward to seeing these results, it's always nice seeing an artist you collect doing well and gaining more success and validation in their work..
Top you made some very valid and spot on points there...
It really is very exciting watching the progress of an artist and how much more amazing each showing gets...

Also, I think that you are right in assuming that the outcome will be favourable..still feel that the best is yet to come!! Good luck..

For me it's always back to the same issue that it's down to personal taste. I'm not so sure how much is necessarily associated with age. Hospital Doors isn't a strong piece for me but a good look through the catalogue demonstrates Guy's amazing talent across the years. The spartan pieces are one example of this; right up there with his very best work. Minotaur Woman still blows me away and always will. (mmm that kind of sounds rude! I think I like it! ) Without a shadow of doubt Guy's work has moved into a different gear since his arrival in France.

I did that with Lilith and tried not to think about the crazy amount of money I had to come up with in a short period of time... But I did it and it was seriously the best money ever spent and she gives me so much joy every time I pass her by... Keep us posted on what you're planning on buying and looking forward to seeing it.... And remember, it's only money, you'll make more... ;D
