There's Still Life is an International exhibition taking place within two major art fairs: Art London in October and SCOPE Miami in December. A select group of contemporary artists from the US and Europe have been given a simple brief - to take the traditional discipline of Still Life and produce contemporary paintings, drawings and sculpture.
Showing Within a Show
Bringing together a group of original artworks from many different artists within the structure of a specific theme helps a Fair audience understand the context of the show, and rather than just 'exhibiting new work' at an art fair, it unites all artists in their efforts to address the same brief. The works, although visually disparate, will be drawn into one cohesive, understandable body.
There's Still Life is also a solution for an increasing number of people who feel exhausted by the market-stall effect of viewing multiple stands at art fairs without having a recognisable context for the individual works. Both exhibitions will show work from emerging and mid-career artists. UK and European artists will participate in the London show, and US artists will exhibit in Miami (with some exceptions).
Whilst a sub-theme of the show is expected to run through many of the works as a creative response to excessive media focusing on the current economic crisis, this show's real aim is to intrigue, entertain and uplift the viewer.
