I know where you're coming from Dan, make a big noise and all that but I think Guy's portraits are what have made people sit up and take notice (sort of his signatature at the moment) so I think its fitting that these pieces represent him. I think maybe one portrait and an impact piece may have balanced it. The 5/11 stuff was really powerful but maybe not fitting with the other Urban stuff at Bonhams. Guy has said that he is really happy with added depth in his recent (bonhams) pieces and I think he means he is still progressing.
Would be interesting to see what happens at the auction. Where would you pitch the success mark?
I think he has already suceeded by being asked to submit pieces. Sounds like RP are chufted to bits.
I'm up north so have the same prob of not being able to get to the exhibitions but hoping to get to more this year. Would like to take in the "Adam and Ronnie" show

Hi, fine thanks Dan!
I think they will command an interest, Guy's previous works are what brought him here, recognition for the fine art that we are accustomed to seeing regularly now.
Admittedly,I at first was slightly disappointed upon seeing the pieces at Bonhams, later though, on reflection I thought that they were highly appropriate and trademark Denning ..doing what he does best.
Since moving to France and the 5/11 show, Guy's work appears more relaxed and at ease- maybe its just me?!. Guy seems to have much more in reserve, latest work and Brams (nice avatar!) comments further confirm this to me and I eagerly await the next offerings..c'mon Guy!
Thinking man's art..

couldn't agree more Top.
I think the thing with Guy's work is that you tend to look through it at first, with a "O.K, that's good stuff" but then after a while you take another look and you think "bloody hell, that is stunning" its like it creeps up on you and then jumps all over you and that's maybe why his fan base is growing gradually but sustainable (unlike say Neate who was nowhere than huge overnight.).
I agree that his newer pieces have a more "pressures off" type feel, as if he doesn't need to prove himself.
I think what the auction will bring is a wider appreciation from non collectors and a confirmation to current collectors that he is a serious talent.
Thinking man's art, agreed, grown up art.....

When you look back throught the archive of work on Guys website, there is a clear evolving depth to his work. The use of colour & tone is becoming more consistent as he is developing a style that communicates what he wants to say. The confidence to address the political subject matter that he feels he needs to express (he sat on some of the 5/11 pictures for years). When I first saw some of Guy's work, a couple of years ago, I was pretty non-plussed; I've not seen anything he has produced over the last 2 years that doesn't hit me in some way...most of it makes me want it on my walls. I can honestly say his recent work has massively changed my taste in artwork. I'm wondering where it's going to take me next.

Yea, I've been trying to get the funds for a canvas for a while and figured that prices are only going one way at the moment so jumped in and I'm still buzzing (and I it hasn't been delivered yet. I'm sure you all know the feeling!!
I'm sure i'll carm down once I get to your status of multiple canvases (or does it make the buzz even bigger?)

I would love to own another Denning canvas..that would be utterly awesome. Assuming what I have heard already..it just gets better! Some people here on this forum have the joys of owning an exquisite selection of gorgeous canvasses
