well, it looks like the days of being able to afford a great piece of art from Denning are all over!!! my heart just sank when I saw those prices... I really wanted to buy Lilith and thought it would be from £5 to £6k and was willing to pay that but £12500 A depressing day for me... Although I have to say good job to Guy for putting out such good work ...

I think this is too big a jump Photoxtc. Yes there was always going to be an increase in price after that £9k at Bonhams but £12500?
These are big canvases though but still 33% too much imo.

Yep, that made me sit up and acknowledge that was my chance of a canvas gone. I honestly believe it was bound to happen eventually but this does feel a little too soon to me. That's no reflection on the work because I think we're all agreed that many of these pieces are his best yet. The two standout pieces being Mort des Amants and Lilith.
I'm so pleased for Guy from an artistic perspective because whilst this may be his strongest work, he's been plugging away for years and his amazing body of work largely ignored by the masses despite much of it being up there in terms of quality with his recent works. Just look through the archives to see that. I can guarantee he'd have gone through the despair of self doubt and wondering if anyone will ever get it. So I celebrate his success.
What I'm saying is he is, in the main, consistently good. The fact that more and more people are waking up to his talent as we ourselves have done is wonderful.
Price wise, I wonder if Josh Keyes has got it right by selling his pieces, knowing they are much sought after and guaranteed to sell with the lists of eager punters paying still high but more reasonable prices. For example currently a 30" x 40" canvas sells at £2200/$4400ish. This is then periodically increased over the shows he does. I don't want to go too far down the road of making comparisons but I guess I'm just disappointed from a very personal and selfish perspective.
That said, I have some superb original pieces that whilst they're not on canvas, I can enjoy every day. ;D

*****UPDATE***** Red Prop have issued a statement taking 30% off all the new canvases. This in my opinion puts the pieces bang on the right price. www.redpropeller.co.uk/index.html

well Said Scavos... we all know Guy is an amazing talent and a top bloke and I hope this isn't the focus now instead of the Amazing show, agreed that this is truely some of his best work to date... prices now seem to be more in line and trust me, I'm sitting here right this second trying to figure out a way to buy Lilith

Photoxtc - that lilth is a snip for you lol. Hit the buy now button. It will look cool in one of those fancy frames.
Hats off to RP for listening to feedback. Yea maybe an error with the initial pricing but how many galleries would have left them like that to save face.

I do have to say much respect should go out to RP, as Bram said many other galleries would probably have just kept the prices as is... But Guy (and RP) have a good fan base and thankfully they listened to our feedback...
One again, Amazing show Guy!!! you just get better and better and never let us down with your talent!!!

I went and saw them all..excellent work, truly phenomenal..almost too good to be true!!! Never went with an intent to buy, would've bought five pieces in an instant given the cash! (in my wildest dreams!). Hope it all goes well for Guy and Red Propeller being ever hopeful,I'm off to buy a scratchcard and lottery ticket! ;D ;D Went to a pub after the show with Guy and Dave from RPG. Those gentlemen are wild, intriguing and hilarious. Had to go around 11pm so as not to miss my train back to Devon..finished my pint and legged it! Met some amazing people too.. always the highlight for me He is happy here by the way! 2-3 bottles of wine may have had something to do with it.. I'm in love with 'Lilith' ;D Apologize for the glare, unavoidable with the amount of varnish!

Blimey - I turn my back for 5 minutes and look what happens! ;D Top - many thanks for those great photos. It does show Lilith in a different light that makes her even more appealing if that were possible. Any chance of posting any more photos from the night? Yomster - what a fantastic video. To hear Guy talk directly about each piece like that really helps contextualise his work. Great to hear how honest and frank he about himself too. He's the sort of person I can imagine getting on well with if I met him. He also hints at his extensive knowledge of art history too which would keep me enthralled for a long long time! And well Mr Photo! What can I say. I envy you for taking that leap and owning what must be one of the most striking paintings I've ever seen. The best work I can think of is awesome. I look forward to seeing that one up in your place sometime in the not too distant future my friend. This might be of interest with regard to the poem Guy mentions in the video, relating to my other favourite piece of the show. fleursdumal.org/poem/197"La Mort des Amants Nous aurons des lits pleins d'odeurs légères, Des divans profonds comme des tombeaux, Et d'étranges fleurs sur des étagères, Ecloses pour nous sous des cieux plus beaux. Usant à l'envi leurs chaleurs dernières, Nos deux coeurs seront deux vastes flambeaux, Qui réfléchiront leurs doubles lumières Dans nos deux esprits, ces miroirs jumeaux. Un soir fait de rose et de bleu mystique, Nous échangerons un éclair unique, Comme un long sanglot, tout chargé d'adieux; Et plus tard un Ange, entr'ouvrant les portes, Viendra ranimer, fidèle et joyeux, Les miroirs ternis et les flammes mortes. — Charles Baudelaire"

Got more drunk as the evening progressed, so please excuse the photo's! ;D The amount of varnish on all the paintings made it very hard to avoid glare (..combined with the gallery lighting). I think 'Double happiness' is an unsung hero of the show.. dark it most certainly is.. 'Mort des amants' has writing etched in bold going just above the top knee up the thigh.. something about Love! ..(hammered..cant remember unfortunately) will ask Red Propeller Gallery when I see them next week or sooner..must have another look at Guy's work!! ;D Funniest fact of the nightThe larger canvasses are the biggest Guy will do presently.. reason..'my estate wont take any bigger' ;D
