New preparatory sketch sketch for 'Joan of Arc' oil, conte and pencil on newsprint 20 x 16 cm on sale from 10am Tuesday 31st July "Due to the chaos of last weeks release we are going to try doing it differently.
This time - everyone who commits to buying the original online over 24 hours will be put into a hat and the first one drawn will get the piece and as before all of the remaining people who have committed to buy the piece will be offered the chance to buy a very limited editon print of it.
Any prints left over from people not taking up this offer will be up for sale on the site the following week. As before the edition number will correspond to the number of people who commit to buying the original
We think this is the fairest way to do this - Guy is in massive demand and we want everyone to have a bite of the cherry."I must admit I'm liking this www.redpropeller.co.uk/section111385_32365.html

Hey up H. I like over here on the GD forum. Yeah, I really like what they are doing at Red Propeller. It's an exciting way to buy art. I wonder what the total number of the print run will be? Anyone taking odds? The last one was 9. I'd say 23 this time around because of the 24 hour window. Roll up, roll up!!

Hey Scavos
Ah 23 . . . my favourite number.
Personally, I think the print edition number will be determined by the price of the original piece. If it's low enough to attract enough buyers then the edition number could potentially be high, but if it's a pricey piece, then I think it could discourage a lot of buyers and will attract less.
And I couldn't agree more, I love the Red Propeller mentality relating to purchasing Guys originals and their print run numbers - very exciting indeed. ;D
I also think that this method will eliminate a lot of the flippers too - with true collectors aiming to purchase pieces to hang instead of aiming to make a quick profit
BTW - can anyone remember how much the 'Minotaur Woman Going To Kick Your Right Wing Arse' piece was originally listed for?
I think it would be a good indication of the low number of prints released. Although I'm sure all of that will change soon enough ;D

I'm waiting for my Minotaur Woman 2/9 to arrive as I missed the original and although I also like this way of doing things I still want to get my first GD original. Undecided on this one, will need to look at it for a bit longer before making a decision.

this is definatley as good a way as any to release original artwork. i don't think it is a fair way for people who want to buy his prints, £795 is a lot of cash(not for an original) and that is going to price out lots of people who want the print and would otherwise be able to afford it. i was lucky enough to buy a print of the minatour kick your arse release, it was because someone who wanted the original pulled out of buying the print. i definatley wouldn't have been able to afford the original, so consider myself lucky. guys popularity seems to be rising quickly, i can see a time when his prints are highly sought after on the secondary market, especially with them looking like being quite low edition numbers due to having to buy the original to get one. i think i would prefer the choice of being able to buy a print at a higher edition run( 25/50), actually i would prefer to be able to afford the originals in the first place.

£795 is a lot of cash(not for an original) and that is going to price out lots of people who want the print and would otherwise be able to afford it. I could've probably stretched to the £195 for the print, but due to other recent purchases I couldn't afford the lottory of potentially forking out just short of £800 so I missed out on a class print. I probably won't get a 'Joan of Arc' print either for the same reason, even though I think they are fairly priced for original pieces MrsH will kill me if I'd enter the draw and win ;D

Hiy yall..
I was wondering dya reckon if you put youre name into the lottery and then got chosen as the buyer for the original if you couldnt afford it could you not request to forgo the opportunity and purchase one of the prints only !!? Its just that otherwise the only people who can 'enter the draw' are those who can afford to spend near 800 quid whereas i suspect a fair few could only just afford the near 200 for the print !! apart from that i do think its a good way to level the field.. Reckon POW with the ol Banksy should give this method a bash... Fair for all.. ( i missed loads of releases cos i aint at a computer all day )

That was the point I used regarding low print editions. If only a few have the cash for an £800 original, then the print run would be substantially lower than those who can afford to buy prints. A fact that is indicated by the extremely low print run of 9. As for me, I'm not keen on entering a lottery if I can't afford to purchase the original as I'd much rather have an original piece of Guys work. In addition, not everyone who enters the original lottery system is required to purchase a print, they are merely given the opportunity to do so should they desire - a reward if you will for showing interest in the original. I think this method means that you're less likely to see the prints appear on ebay but rather in the hands of true fans of Guys work As for negating on an offer and requesting a print. . . I'm not so sure, as I fear that this would allow the flippers a means of getting their fast buck What do others think?

i don't feel its right that only people who can afford an original should be able to purchase a print. i dont see what is wrong with the old fashioned way making a resonable sized print run and letting them sell at their own pace. by creating an instantly sold out print run possibly as low as 9, there will be a demand on the secondary market and possibly at well over the originl cost.

i think i must have misunderstood, i thought that it was people who had paid for the original and had to be refunded that woud be offered the print. due to red propeller not being able to remove the print after it had been sold. either way i am not going to go for this one, but i am temted by several of the other prints. what do people who have recieved the prints think of the quaility?

Wow - the 'Joan of Arc' sketch is only £395 - that's not bad at all for an original although it is a small piece measuring just 20 x 16 cm I think this price might push up the print edition numbers ;D

That's a pleasant surprise! I suspect we can get a good perspective of size by checking all the images on the redpropeller site. Your right MH it's a small one, (tiny, in fact) but perfectly formed! Get's my vote.
